OUR COMPANY Connecticut Coconut Company was founded by Marissa Felix in 2003 as a coconut beads and natural accessories trading business in Manila, Philippines. By the end of the year, Connecticut Coconut Company had become a wholesale distributor of coconut beads and fresh water pearls to the USA market. Shortly after Ms. Felix vision expanded to include organic and conventional desiccated coconut and organic virgin coconut oil to food manufacturers and confectioners in Canadian and USA food and beverage manufacturers. In mid 2004, Ms. Felix recognized the emerging market for organic foods, natural ingredients, and started trading her products in West Europe and it was just a matter of time before her products reached the Mediterranean. Her vision since her beginnings continued to be "support and promote a healthy lifestyle." By third quarter of 2005, consumer demand has not only driven the growth of the organic and natural ingredients, it has likewise been the key factor behind the growth in sales of gourmet, ethnic and specialty food products. Ms. Felix added organic coconut milk, organic coconut cream and organic creamed coconut to her product lines which attracted new markets like coffee, beer, sauce and personal care manufacturers to her sales. FAIR TRADE PROJECT Our main manufacturing source started a Fair Trade cooperation with Ecocert. Ecocert  (a French organization certifying organic and fair trade products world wide.) where in 2009 they started a joint fair trade project that pays 3% of all purchases into a cooperation fund. That money is being used for education, health care and environmental care. It also supports a coconut seed program and pays towards a better infrastructure for the farmers, workers and their suppliers. It is also used to fund an incentive program for the workers. Major projects include an education program for the workers’ children and families and a local hospital that is open to its employees as well as the community.
